Soap Box Website Improvements

Oct 20, 2009 2:04 PM (14+ Years)
A simplified menu bar would take a partial redesign.  In the future I want to redesign the site around a fixed width format.  This would help it to be more compatible with mobile devices.

I dont think I am the only one logging in from a mobile. I can accesss nearly all of the sites features but some of the menu tabs are missing. I work 24 hour shifts three days a week and I am occasionally deployed to assignments lasting a few days to a month. This is one of my favorite webpages to keep my sanity and keep me looking foreward to the next party! With the growing presence of the Blackberry, WinMobile, and not to mention the I phone, I can hope for a day when I can meet, chat, and view all the sexy people from all over the state!

I have added a new feature to the site.  To help prevent unsolicited access to your private photos, I have added two new fields to the member profiles.  Minimum Public Photos, and Minimum Private Photos.  You can set these values to whatever you want.  If a member does not meet both of these requirements they will not be allowed to request access to your privates.  Click on the SETTINGS in your menu bar, to adjust these values.  Currently everyone is set to 0, meaning anyone can request access.

I have added a new feature to the members Profiles.
RSVP Privacy.
You can change this by clicking on settings in your menu bar at the top.  The two options are public and private.
Public will allow everyone ( member and non-member ) to see your RSVP icon under the events, your Profile, and the newsletter.
Private will only show your RSVP icon to active members.

Why am I adding this?
I know our last party had over 150 people show up, but only about 20 members RSVPed for this event.  It seems some members are coming out to events but not RSVPing.  I figured these members wish to remain discreet on their RSVPs, so I added the RSVP privacy so they can still RSVP for events, and maintain their privacy.  So if you are coming to an event and only want other members to know about it, set your RSVP privacy to Private and RSVP for the event.

We recently upgraded the site to a new faster server. Giving us the ability to add a few more improvements to the members side of the site. The first improvement is to the forum. Members can now see who has replied to a forum post and or who has subscribed to a forum post. By subscribing to a forum post you can now get email updates whenever someone submits to that forum. That way you can stay up to date on that particular topic. You also have the option to unsubscribe to the forum post as well.
The second improvement is called "Community Stats". This is basically for members to get a quick overview of the site stats for the last 24 hours. You can see stats for member log ins, profile views, comments, mail sent, photos uploads and event rsvps. This is basically the heart beat of the site for a 24 hour period. Just another way to keep you informed on what is going on with the Dp site.
As we think of more unique improvements we will continue to bring them your way.

Just a reminder to all our site members that we have updated your profiles with new information that you can fill about yourself. Just click on settings and go to your preferences and you can select to edit them.
Here is one important new feature that follows you throughout the site telling others on rsvps, posts etc... as it frames your master photo with the correct color scheme.

I have updated the lifestyle indicator colors.
Vanilla is Vanilla
Pink is now Girls Gone Wild
Green is Softball
Red is Hardball
This should make it easier to tell the difference between member types.
If you see a member with a black border on their icon, this means they haven't indicated the type of couple they are yet.  Make sure you remind these people to update their profile.

The only thing we have changed is the profile's and their layouts, but the members photos have not changed in any way. Compression settings and sizes are the same.  If you have any specific picture you are concerned about let me know what specific photo is causing issues, and I will look into this.

Hope everyone likes the updated menu bars.  Let me know if you see anything else that doesn't look right

We haven't changed the compression settings of the photos in over 2 years.  It is most likely due to the members uploading poor quality photos.

Let us know if you are still having this issue. I Just cleaned the private photo access

I have updated the lifestyle indicator colors.
Vanilla is Vani
Pink is now Girls Gone Wild
Green is Softball
Red is Hardball
This should make it easier to tell the difference between member types.
If you see a member with a black border on their icon, this means they haven't indicated the type of couple they are yet.  Make sure you remind these people to update their profile.

Actually changing the colors would be very easy.  They are defined in a CSS Style sheet.  Trust me, I was torn with the same problems as you.  As they all look too similar.

I knew I wanted red to be hardball
and vanilla to be for vanilla
But the GGW, and softball status types, I didn't know what to use.  I know the yellow and vanilla look similar.
IF you all have any thoughts or opinions on what colors you would like to see for these let me know.
If there is dedicated color schemes for the lifestyle that I don't know about, then please educate me.

Just a reminder for those who have not realized the new upgrades to the member profiles. You need to log into your profile and click on edit preferences. This will take you to the new features so that you can update your profile. Just another way to better describe yourself and let others know a little about you and your lifestyle preferences.

On certain sections of the site, members master photo will have a colored border that indicates the type of couple.  You must be logged into the site to see this.

Red border = HardBall
Green border = SoftBall
Yellow border = Girls Gone Wild
Vanilla border = Vanilla

The profiles, event page, and homepage have been updated with these color codings.  Any member with a Dark grey border has not yet indicated what type of couple they are.  Guests viewing the site will always get the dark grey border.
Don't forget to setup your new profile settings, so everyone can get to know you better

We will not normally have the upcoming event live and large at the top of the homepage. You will only see the large next event flier on parties such as Purgatory weekend, Halloween and NYE. Then our goal is to have it up the week of. We are still playing around with the design some but all of the features displayed are ones that members requested in the past. We do agree its a busy homepage but it keeps everyone abreast of the latest and greatest in one area. Without the next event being so large at the top it gives the homepage a better flow. Thanks for all the input and the feedback that we have been getting.

However if bases are loaded, two outs, two strikes and its the bottom of the ninth inning. Then perhaps only a hardball down the middle will do. Just food for thought.
But a night of girls gone wild cannot be wrong, now can it.
Apr 18, 2009 5:30 PM (15+ Years)
Then you would be softball.  Remember girls gone wild means you only entertain other ladies, if you have any thoughts about softball ( even as picky as they might be ) then you would be softball. This will help members determine how to approach you.

We've upgraded the members homepage with some new features. You can now see on the homepage the newest members, most recent member comments and the latest uploaded member photos. Plus we have upgraded the member profile section. You now have more features that describe you. To access these new features just go to "my" profile and click on edit/ contacts, preferences. Then scroll down and fill out the new features. Be sure to press the save button when you are all done.
Everything was done today and we hopefully got all the bugs out. However if you find any errors please let us know and we will get them corrected.

I know alot of people want the ability to bulk message their friends, but we are trying to keep the site from turning into a myspace with spam comments / mail.  There is too much temptation for abuse with this feature, so we can't add it yet.

I am slowly making updates to the site that should greatly enhance members experience.  Some people have asked for a bio box where they can tell others about themself.  This would be great, but some members would say too much, and not leave anything to the imagination.

Don't worry though the new features I am working on everyone will like.
Apr 13, 2009 8:28 AM (15+ Years)
On the member profiles. We have updated the member messag boxes to reflect your current mood, status, updates, your out and abouts or other members thoughts on your profile etc.... It is basically a one stop area to let everyone know what you are up to currently and or their comments.
