Soap Box SLR Camera Settings for Night Clubs

I know we have several professional photographers in our community, so I wanted to throw this question out to them. I am trying to figure out what would be the best settings for my camera when shooting in NightClubs ( with the dance floor lights ). I have a Sony Alpha 100 10.2 MP camera. When shooting in Auto Mode its not getting the job done. What ISO do you guys shoot at? Aperature? Shutter Speed? In normal lighting conditions my camera does great, but in darker conditions with club lights, the lights cause everything else to black out. Anyone have some tips? Is it really better to use an External Flash rather than the built in one? Any advice would be most appreciated. Also I have the following lenses.
Sony 18-70 3.5-56
Sigma 28-105
Minolta 50 1.8
Tamrom 18-200 3.5-6.3
