What great thoughts/review! This definately helps a lot and we'll be sure to try to squeeze in the sunset cruise and dinners. Anyone else going to be down there during that time? |
We have been going to Hedo II since 1997. The only comparison between the two resorts is that they are both lifestyle. Hedo II is a older resort set on a beatiful stretch of beach called 7 mile. The resort is located in Negril and that part of Jamaica is one of our favorites places to visit anywhere. We love the culture, the ambiance and the beautiful sunset views overlooking the bay. Hedo II recently got new ownership two years ago and they are slowly rehabbing the entire resort. The resort is set on 25 acres so it is spread out. The resort has alot of amenities with lush vegetation, exotic flowers etc.... It would not be fair for me to compare Hedo II to Desire Pearl or Desire R.M. The Desire properties are leap years ahead of where Hedo II is right now. The previous family of owners pretty much ran Hedo II into the ground. They did not put the profits they made back into the resort. So Hedo II is playing catch up now. The Desire properties have taken customer service up to the level of a five star main stream resort. The rooms are better as is the food at the Desire properties. In Jamaica you are literally entering a third world country. The drive to the resort takes approximatley 75 minutes and you will see how poor the country really is. It is a shock for many people as they have never before been exposed to that. The Jamaican people are wonderful, friendly and have always been super kind to us. Ask the driver to stop at Green Island as there is a roadside jerk chicken stand. Yep it looks scary but the chef is super friendly and the jerk chicken is to die for. We stopped for a hour on our last visit and soaked in the vibe of the place. The red stripe is pretty cold also. Life in Jamaica is much more laid back and the famous slogans, No worry, no hurry and Yeh Mon are what you will hear alot. A sublte tip of a dollar or two at the resort will get things moving right along as no one is ever in a hurry. But we understand that any time we visit Jamaica. We understand patience, a.c. may not always be as cold as we like and sometimes you are hit or miss on hot water. But the views are breath taking, the red stripe is always cold and you can truly just leave your worries at home and turn off your cell phone if you like. There are no large suites at Hedo II but for many the room is only a place to sleep as the party is all around them at the resort. We encourage you to try Catcha Falling Star for dinner one evening and enjoy the magnificent sunset. Plus if you can take a sunset catamaran cruise as the resort offers the cruise and its a party within a party. We have quite a few pictures in the photo gallery from group trips that we have done to Hedo II. Kevin Levee is the G.M. and one of the owners. He loves the Dp group so be sure to say hi to him. Hope all the advice helps make your trip a great one. |
We're going to Hedo II and were wondering if anyone else was going or had any thoughts. We've been to Desire a few times and really love it, but thought we'd give Jamaica a try this time around. So - Anything in particular we should know about it? |
