I'm working on a large project now, but I"d be happy to work with whomever on increasing these numbers at basically no cost so that DP gets past the 1 Million mark on its Traffic Ranking.

If you have any ideas for driving traffic to the site, you are more than welcome to give it a try.  I am not too concerned with Alexa ranking.  But an increase in traffic is always welcomed.

I agree with the fact that Alexa is not a very accurate way of measuring website success.  But it can help give you a comparison to other sites.  Just for the record here is DP's current stats

Average Daily page views 28K-35K
Average Daily Unique Daily Visitors: 1100 - 1400.
The numbers you see at the top left of the site( normally about half the totals ), are organic and have crawlers and bot IPs filtered out.

Monthly stats Unique Visitors
Oct 2008: 17,256
Nov 2008 17,417
Dec 2008 23,017
Jan 2009 18,808 ( so far )

We had a spike in traffic for the NYE event thanks to some internal SEO efforts.

Page views averages out to about 750K / month
With about 80GB transfer

Even though I don't put much wait on Alexa.com's statistics, what you have to look at is the traffic ranking. Traffic ranking COMBINES the page view and users.

Like you said, DP's ranking is 1,534,889, next you have CT at 135,320, then you have LL at 8,372, and SDC at 6,563.  The way to read this is the LOWER the number, the better....

From Alexa: "The site with the highest combination of users and pageviews is ranked #1."  The monthly, weekly and even 3 months stats don't mean much at all, its how they affect your Traffic Ranking which is listed above. Anybody can look this up.  However, there are certain tricks that a site's managers can use specifically to change the Alexa Ranking, just like there are trick to affect the SEO and SEM functionality.

I'm working on a large project now, but I"d be happy to work with whomever on increasing these numbers at basically no cost so that DP gets past the 1 Million mark on its Traffic Ranking.

That would certainly be interesting if those stats were worth the "paper" they were written on. Unfortunately, being in the net business myself, most people know that Alexa's stats just aren't credible. Of course we want DP to do well, but Alexa stats haven't been viewed as relevant in a number of years, specifically since they don't track any other web browser but IE which most people don't use nowadays (until recently). Alexa also says by the way that DP has a mostly middle aged "male" audience...lol.

From Quantcast.com:
"This site reaches approximately 4,265 U.S. monthly people. The site is popular among a more educated, middle aged, HH income up to $60k, primarily male audience."

Then you have the people who will site stats like on Quantcast.com which say that DP got only 4.3 thousand unique visitors last month to 23.8k at LL and 44.7k visitors last month at SDC, and so on and so forth.

Mostly, these kinds of tools aren't really useful in valueing a site's true value. Especially so for private membership sites which don't get the same amount of "trackable" traffic in the front door, compared to what happens in the "back door". To do that a number of factors go into play, but its really easy to figure most of it out by looking at the financials of the publicly traded ones, the sales tax reports of the others, and whether or not they have received any offers for purchase lately (market value).

For membership sites you have to look at the number of new signups, the retainage percentage and monthly churn.  That's hard to place a value on using an external third party site like Alexa or Quantcast.com

Just some fun facts on the main lifestyle sites
Traffic rankings by Alexa
DP: 1,534,889 UP 20% last 3 months
CT: 617,011 DOWN 70% last 3 months
LL: 41,326 UP 7% last 3 months
SDC: 17,947 UP 0.3% last 3 months

Even though DP is the smallest ( mainly because we are a local site ), we are showing great growth.  SDC is slowing down, that this explains why they are suddenly taking a more defensive marketing posture. Not surprizingly CT is down alot, and this could explain their love for DP. : )

hmmmm, and we have a profile on SDC and recently updated our pics on the site. Oh well, put another chalk mark on the board. We post all our events on Lifestyle Lounge and besides this site its one we recommend.
It's getting to the point where you have to ask for a email address from someone to tell them about DP events.

Capitalism will take care of everything.  If there are too many websites, surely some of them are meant to fail.  Most likely it will be the ones that cater to single males, and charge premiums prices to interact with non premium couples.  If Couples Touch spent their time improving their own site rather than constantly trying to deface the DP reputation, maybe they wouldn't be loosing all their better looking members.

Wow!

This thread is very enlightening.  We are have been members of CT for quite awhile and noticed the decline in the amount of couples on the site over the last six months.  This could explain some of that.

It is a shame.  Houston has such a great Lifestyle community!  I hope multiple sites heavily competing for the Lifestyle business does not do the same thing multiple clubs competing did over the last several months.

After my previous post and browsing through members here...found it interesting that the owners/ web master of CT that doesnt want to allow DP to promote parties etc.... are members of this very site.  ....Wendilirious.....

Just to give a correction since I hate when facts are not true, its how rumors spread to gossip to out right lies. Wendilirious is NOT the owners/webmaster of CT...they are marketing. CT is run by someone different.

We are aware that they are members plus a few others. Just thought it would be two sided to delete the profile and treat them as they have treated others. Plus we have known about all the facts that you posted. Just didnt want to bring more drama by posting it ourselves. Your DP hosts are pretty tuned to all the games being played and just decide to turn the other cheek. Because like you said, DesirousParty must be doing something right. Because the haters keep lining up. lol
Anyways this is a great forum because members educate everyone who reads the forum posts. Because the real facts do come out. Thanks for posting.

Just for the record. I have no problem with CT. Dont really appreciate how DP was treated or how their members are being treated by having DP party stamp pictures up, mentioning DP etc....CT and DP co-existed for a very long time and I thought we were mutually beneficial for each other. I dont kick members off the site for mentioning another site. In fact as you can tell I let sexxycouples.com post and I exchange links with LL and SDC to mention just a few. To your hosts at DP this is all about mixing, mingling, meeting cool people, parties and group trips. Everything else is secondary as life is serious enough.
So in closing, sorry for all of those who have and or having trouble. Now lets go back to having fun.

These days we prefer SDC over CT. It used to be the opposite. But SDC has really improved. Take a look if you haven't used it yet.

"Donkey raping shit eaters", lol, that right there is fighting words. But yes I understand your feelings. Things are getting worse and not better. I guess taking care of your clientele has gone out the window for some. But you have to love haters. From a factual standpoint. I have been told that they have gone into club affiliate profiles and deleted any mention of DP without their permission as well as send them threatening letters where they are not supposed to allow DP to host events.
I guess if I wanted I could charge $5 for a membership and offer video chat, etc... I would probably lose money as that costs quite a bit but it would eliminate all the haters. But no, we are a social networking site focusing on parties and group trips. All the other amenities of DP is to help our members and guests communicate. One cannot control the world nor Houston. I guess the haters will take on MySpace next. Until then party on, mix, mingle, have fun as this is whats its all about. "Dont Worry, Be Happy". Party on Garth!!!

I thought CT stood for "Couples Touch "not "Causing Turmoil".

Seems like they have forgotton their purpose!!

Screw em!!

Normally I refrain from giving my opinion especially on this topic. I realize that our members and guests are educated and can see everything for what it is. After all this is all about fun, no drama and just getting out and about on the weekends with very cool people. For some its more than that which is why we have some of the features on the site that we do. But where else can you let your hair down, get a little wild in a safe environment, seek out stock tips, get work out advice, travel tips, group trips,  photography  ideas  plus so much more. DesirousParty was designed to be a one stop place for everything.  Not one central idea.  I never intended it  to be  a simple mind site and it is not.
So in closing I want to say a big thank you to everyone who sees this for what it is, letting others know your experience and also a big thank you for all of you who have taken your time to read this forum. Expect some more changes to the site in the future as we are looking to expand on some other ideas that will be unique and broaden the site even more.
See you all at a party or perhaps on a white sandy caribbean beach in the future.

CT sucks! We left at the end of July when DP was deleted. If DP is not good enough for CT than CT is not good enough for jenandtonic! Great Desirous Party last night! Whew!!!

Its hard to be called a couples site when its flooded with single males. Of course single males is how they are making most of their money.
Aug 23, 2008 6:13 PM (15+ Years)
ok...we usually stay pretty hush hush about this bs....but i have to say it....COUPLESTOUCH AND ITS OWNERS CAN KISS MY BIG BROWN ASS....damn that felt great.
Aug 23, 2008 4:36 PM (15+ Years)
I think CT is making a huge mistake. They try to give the image of being an online community, but then when they start blocking the promotion of events, that makes them a little too greedy for my tastes.
