All packed up and ready to go. Pulling out of Houston at noon tomorrow. We will be flying the Dp banner on the party barge. So if you are looking for our barge just look for the huge Dp and of course all of the Hotties. Both will be good clues as to where we will be at. Plus a big thanks to Dp members, Knbnsa for organizing the party barge and also DJ Jazzy Jeff, Dp member, Poller1972, for pulling the DJ duties for everyone on or near our party barge. Going to be a great weekend and we will see all of you Hotties very soon.

Please feel free to bring as much burnt orange stuff as you wish to decorate Mr. Hot4Teachers barge. We will convert him over to the winners side. I think he would look great in some UT swim trunks.

Some of the couples are bringing air pumps with them. So I would bring it in the box and inflate it when you get out on the water. Thats what everyone else seems to be doing.

Jello shots will last for several days. But you gotta keep them cold. We usually bring big icechest to the lake and make sure they stay covered with ice. Then we bring a smaller ice chest, to float around with and hand out shots. The only time they go bad is after they get hot. Then they're get watery. Christine searched google until she found a recipe that gives you the maximum ratio of alcohol to jello that will still gel.

Just got word that we are coming to the BBB.........our friends had to cancel going on account of business so we got their room and place on the party barge. We are so excited, it will be kinda like a mini Hedo trip...WOOO HOOO!!!

I have left jello shots in the fridge for 4 days. Just as long as you keep them cold. I used to make a huge batch for the river trips and had no problems.

Ok, we have an unusual question. We will be bringing a large supply of jello shots to the BBB but we will have to make them a few days ahead of time. We will be at Graham central station friday night followed by Allure.com until very early saturday. Since we are not experts in this we have no idea how long we can leave them in the fridge.

I was at the park today and the marked swim area has a nice large pebble beach gently sloping into the lake. This is very different from the usual large boulder and cliff faces that are normally accessible. The boat area is still a steep and rocky cliff. LCRA, the folks in charge of the Highland lakes, are suggesting that the public boat ramps will be closed in less than two weeks time. Nobody really knows when this will occur because they cannot remember exactly what depth the ramp at Mansfield dam ends! If you are planning on bringing your own boat I would start calling the private marinas and look for an alternate place to put in. I would also start thinking about a plan "B". We will be using an inflatable island and a rubber raft that we can carry down to the water. Also remember to avoid glass bottles in the park and bring a Koozie to cover your beer; the park rangers are strict this year. Here is the latest River report.

Lake Travis update:

Currently, Mansfield Dam Recreation Area, located off Ranch Road 620 about five miles south of FM 2222, has the only public boat ramp available for boaters to use on Lake Travis over the Fourth of July weekend. It is usable until the lake level drops below 640 feet above mean sea level.

Since the beginning of the water recreation season, 11 of the 12 Lake Travis public boat ramps have become unusable as the lake level has fallen below the concret ramps. Many boaters still have access to the lake through private marinas and docks.

Travis County Parks, which operates the LCRA-owned parks around Lake Travis, wants boaters who are planning to visit Lake Travis over the holiday weekend to be aware of the conditions and plan accordingly. Additionally, two of the four lanes used to simultaneously launch multiple boats at Mansfield Dam are unusable, reducing the ramp's launch capacity by half.

Boaters planning to use the only open public boat ramp on the lake need to have patience for long lines and to anticipate that the park will be closed to vehicles when parking spaces are filled there and at the nearby Mansfield Dam Overlook Park, which is used for overflow trailer parking. Staff regularly closely the park on holiday weekends as early as noon when the parking areas are full. Drivers on RR 620 need to be aware of potential traffic issues as the park fills up and the line of vehicles backs up onto RR 620.

Without significant rainfall to replenish water released for downstream uses and lost to evaporation, Lake Travis will continue to drop more than two feet a week. The average elevation for Lake Travis in July is 669.28 feet above mean sea level. On July 3 in the morning, its elevation was 643.07 feet.

Lake Travis has been lower during past droughts.

The official site for the event is bbbevent.com . Dp members "knbnsa" are also putting together a pre-paid party barge for the event that will hold approximately 40 couples. I believe that this party barge sold out a while ago.However I would contact them as their might have been cancellations etc.... But if so there will still be plenty of boats, floats etc.... and numerous party barges out there. Be sure to log onto the main site for all the party info.

Lake Travis was a canyon that was impounded in the 1930's. Hippie Hollow is on the steep side of a bend in the river. The bank and bottom are roughly 45 degrees from the park all the way down to about 185 feet. So if you are roughly 20 feet from shore you will be in about 20 feet of water. Boats will not have any problems with depth aside from the common problems associated with an anchor rope that is too short. Bring 200 feet of rope and a cheap anchor. The bottom is nothing but rocky crags and anchors foul often. An old coworker of mine died last year attempting a breath hold dive to free his anchor. Easiest solution is cut the rope. I hope this doesn't deter anyone from bringing their own boat, I just want to see everyone have fun with as few complications as possible. On the plus side, as the water level drops the park get bigger.

We wanted to let all you folks coming in from out of town know about the current lake conditions. The lake is low but otherwise warm and clear. If you will be towing a boat be prepared to launch early from Mansfield dam. Most of the lakes public ramps are already closed. the ramps still open are Jones brothers Park in Jonestown 4 feet to closure, Sandy creek park 1 foot to closure, and Four lanes of ramps at Mansfield dam 9 feet until closure. Lake Travis is a flood control impoundment so the water levels can vary widely, lately the water has dropped about one foot a week but even a small rain can bring up levels quickly. We will not have a boat this year and plan to have our own pirate island with a treasure chest of jello shot plunder.

Just a few more hints that we have gathered from our many river trips. Bring plenty of rope to tie off from. Bring big thermal cups to keep your drinks really cold and that way you dont have to make frequent trips back to the barge to get a refill. Plus a water proof bag to put your suntan lotion and any other necessities that you want to keep near you and not wet. Oh and I know some of the girls will not like this one as its all about the hair. But bring a hat. You will appreciate it later on in the day after being in the sun for awhile. just my two cents.
