Friends club review..
We would like to begin with a bit about us, to give you an idea of our perspective. We are not frequent partiers, but we are not new to the lifestyle either. We have been married for 19 years, we have kids, and we like to push our own boundaries. Both of us tend to lean towards the sit and talk over good drinks. We like to really get to know our new friends. Our favorite big parties are Carnaval Austin, Desirous parties “Purgatory”, and Hippie Hollows summer kick-off and “Butts,Boobs and Boats”. We don't get out as much as we would like but we are getting better.
We were invited to come out to Friends club and give it a try. We had attempted to try Friends several years ago at a previous location but were turned off by the location, the cash only policy, and the brief tour of the premises. We were not impressed. This was definitely not the case this time.
First lets discuss the new location, the place has moved to a more central location which should be welcome news to all of Austin. We live in the southern suburbs which put both both of Austin's lifestyle clubs an hour's drive away. This new location is much closer to the central entertainment district and the downtown hotels. We arrived after a voice verification phone call and were given directions. The location is not advertised and the building has no signage to advertise what is going on. From the outside it looks like a private event space. We were greeted at the door in a fantastic entryway. Stone, tile, and iron were tastefully done. We were introduced to a very attractive guide who gave us the club rules and a tour of the facility. The main room is very spacious with seating around the dance floor and pole. A small bar was located towards the back with plenty of mixers and set ups. The music was set at a good volume and was playing a fairly standard assortment of generic dance music. We both agreed that the music could try a higher energy dance mix with a bit more Edm We have almost nothing negative to say, comfortable chairs, a variety of seating options. The club is beginning to show a bit of age as the building has had several previous lives. We hung out with the new owners who were telling the history, and their motivations for buying the club and moving to the new location. They were wonderful people who shared their vision for what is most likely the largest lifestyle club in the country. The place is still a work in progress and We can't wait to see their vision completed.
Upstairs we find a playspace that is absolutely immense. Again we find a variety of seating options from chairs and couches to private booths overlooking the lower dance floor. The area has everything you need in a well stocked playspace including the dungeon. The club has an a la cart pricing system with a really reasonable base price which give you access to the first floor. Additional access to the upper floor play area or rental of the private booths are additional upgrades. Purchasing a night out is comparable to other lifestyle clubs, and probably much cheaper than a Saturday night out on sixth street.
