Houston Sound off on Club IsIs- Overview

Mar 5, 2013 3:34 PM (11+ Years)
Quick follow up post and solution. No contact from club management since event. Plus I was contacted in reference to possible legality issues and have not been able to clarify those.  So cancelling next event there until changes can be made and things rectified if possible. Next event, April 6th, will be Bombshell Lingerie party at the Ritz VIP Lounge. Caitlin and I are heading out on Thursday night to scout three new locations for the events. So yes we will have a new second venue on the schedule soon. Contacting Doubletree Hobby to get a group block for the party guests.

You guys did great as always. We really appreciate all that you did to make a bad situation the best it can be and that is all we can ask for. Look forward to the next!

These are other comments from members that we received on another sound off forum on this topic.

  • If the owners are admitting a poor job and are promising change lets give them another try. The problems sound fixable and another regular Venue would be refreshing.
  • If the bartender situation can be fixed the place definitely has potential.
  • Go back! Go back! You looked HOT with a mop in your hand! LOL  New bartenders and fixed bathroom make it a done deal in our opinion. Plus the club is central...perfect for everybody coming from all sides of town which has a lot to do with attendance. We had an awesome night, once we got the drink situation handle (ordered a triple to last me). Many Thx to you and Caitlin!
  • You guys did a great job stepping up to fix the problems. I agree with your comments and the solutions to the issues at hand. It is sad that you have to come and show management how to fix it. I hope they pay you for the consulting services. We requested a second bottle and they did not have anymore. We also know another couple that had the same situation. Putting all the issues aside, most of the people we know liked the place, the location and even the parking. We really enjoyed the change of venue and look forward to going there after you get through fixing the place. Keep up the great job you two!
  •  But it was very nice to see friends that came out that we have not seen in some time!

Thanks for the input and we agree on all points. All of that will be addressed when we speak to the ownership. With the club not opening the 2nd floor bar that forced the crowd to remain downstairs. Upstairs has bar stools, pub tables, high back chairs and drink ledges that circle the first floor. So great place to mix n mingle, set your drinks down etc.. However with the 2nd floor bar never being opened not a whole lot of reason to venture upstairs as the crowd was busy mingling downstairs.
We are going to sit down with management sometime this week and go over these details plus a few more. It has great potential to be a second venue for the events. But they need to get on their "A" game on all facets if they want to host our events.

We love you DP, BUT it only took us less than 30 minutes to realize the club was a disaster and left.

So we arrive at the parking lot...
We paid the $10 to park (totally understand this since it's downtown).

Front door...
Arriving at the front door we asked for a coat check (it's around 40 degrees out) and the guy told us that there was no coat check because the person (girl) didn't show up, but that there was a rack that we could hang the coat on. We decided to hold on to it for a bit, and made our way to the restrooms.

Restrooms...
My husband came out of the men's restroom and  he couldn't believe how dark and dated it was (no remodeling visible, looked 100 years old).
Then I went to the ladies restroom and we all know what a mess that was! But beyond that water leak mentioned the stall door was broken, the entrance door was propped open with the trash can and it was just as dated as what my husband had described in the men's and surely was lacking a feminine touch on every level.

The bar...
We had the same impression of the  bartenders service and appearance  "poor".

Coat check...
My husband decided he would go and hang my coat on the rack up by the front door, but on the way there someone told him that the coat rack had fallen down. He kept going to see if it was up again and then another person advised him not to hang anything on there because it had already fallen down twice. So he brought the coat back to me.

Seating...
We noticed two empty stools off the to side of the bar against the wall and decided to sit for a while and look around at the crowd and the club.
We soon noticed that there was no stools at the bar, only a few tables; so now it made since that everyone was standing around on the dance floor mingling and seeming a bit awkward, placement wise. Ladies in high heals standing endlessly, holding drinks, limited places to set them down for a dance unless you were lucky enough to have one of the few tables available.

Upstairs....
Well, we had seen quite enough downstairs that we didn't think it mattered to even venture up there.

Embiance...
It looked much better in the pictures.

Bottom line...
We were not impressed with club Isis at all and would not recommend a 2nd chance, unless the club owners decided to really fix up the place and bring it up to scale...but that's just our opinion.

Thanks for the comment and yes it did get better and a bit smoother as the night went along. I learned how to move that mop really quick. lol But the overall consensus thus far is IsIs deserves another chance as the major problem was the bar. Once that is fixed it will be a great central venue for the Dp crowd. As it definitely pulled a very HOT crowd of new faces and regular party guests as well. We are also scheming on some new lighting twists for the next event as well. Endless possibilities with this venue and there was even a Canadian couple who came out for the party as they traveled in for the event. So again thanks for the feedback.

Sound Off On IsIs Club-yep someone had to do it so why not us.

Pro's-
Great location, great venue as far as ambiance, feel, looks, energy, cool boutique hotels in area and very cool restaurants in area as well. Definitely miss the downtown feel. Huge turnout of over 225 people from numerous LS websites. Very sexy fit crowd in attendance. Lots of mixing, mingling, dancing and people watching by everyone. Overall very high energy night.

Con's-
Slow Bar, No Bar, unintelligent bartenders, long wait times for a drink, lack of waitresses and very slow bottle service. Caitlin and I took over and started handling bottle service ourselves, refilling ice buckets, mixers etc... Thennnnnn add in problems with the women's restroom. Yep that was Mr. Dp mopping the women's restroom all night long to keep you ladies in business. Obviously you do not use bar napkins in abundance instead of toilet paper. lol
Depending on where you are musical wise the music was a pro or a con. In all fairness I feel that Dj M.E. did a outstanding job. You cannot keep 225 plus people all happy with musical taste. Crowd was in a state of either dancing or mingling all night as again lots of new faces and connections being made. So kinda hard to keep everyone happy. One person wants house, one person wants hip hop, dance etc... You can end up with a juke box feel to the music if you are not careful. I noticed that lots of people were new to the scene and dancing where ever they stood as they were trying to get climated to the party scene. Having a nice alcoholic beverage always helps smooth those new nerves so the slow bar added to this problem.

Problem Solving
Soooooooo what do we do. I think that the pro's out way the con's. Had a short and very direct talk with ownership before I left. Basically if I tell you its going to rain you better ask me how many umbrellas do we need. Not wait until its pouring to see if we can make that umbrella order. I told them on emails, texts, phone calls and in person a minimum of 200 people in attendance. They claimed that they thought that the rsvps on Dp meant people not couples. Sooooo maybe so maybe not but either way the club was not prepared for our crowd. But again a slow bar is a easy thing to fix as you just bring in new bartenders. We learned that the bartenders the club normally uses were working the rodeo. So last nights staff was replacements.

Fixes-

The club was overwhelmed and not prepared. Next time be prepared for the classy sophisticated and uber HOT crowd that comes out for Dp events. First and foremost all said bartenders will not be back which was agreed upon. Bringing in three qualified bartenders for bottom bar and two bartenders for top bar which never opened. Bathroom attendants for men's and women's restrooms. Love you ladies but I do not want to mop again. At least three waitresses and designate them to handle nothing but bottle service and keeping you guys stocked up on ice, mixers etc....

Now the good part as they asked how do we make this better. Preparation, fast bar service and very cheap drinks on all brands until at least 11pm if not longer for the next event. Which was agreed upon. I will basically step in the week of if its decided and make sure that they are not asleep at the wheel again. I believe in a second chance if its warranted. The ambiance of the venue, central location, ability to do full club takeovers and not mix our crowds is a huge plus. We fix the bar problem and its  a great club. Plus work in some cheap quality drinks that are served before the ice melts would make a awesome night out. Again boutique hotels, cool restaurants and the ever present beautiful crowd makes it a appealing location.

For those wondering are we still doing events at the Ritz VIP? Just trying to work out a second venue that will cater to our crowd. Draw in more new faces and keep things fresh. So yes we are still doing events at the Ritz VIP and have an event planned there for late April.

So please sound off and let us know your honest opinions. If the majority says forget about it. Then as we always do, be on the look out for another venue that fits our crowd.
